What is a mission-driven company?
A mission-driven company is an organization committed to long-term social and environmental initiatives that align with its business activities. This legal status, introduced by the Pacte Law in 2019, applies to commercial companies, mutual insurance company, and unions.

According to Article L210-10 of the French Commercial Code, a company can attain the status of a “mission-driven company” if it meets the following criteria:
– Includes a purpose statement in its articles of incorporation.
– Defines social and environmental objectives in its articles of incorporation that align with this purpose.
– Establishes a strategic committee to oversee the progress in achieving these objectives.
– Appoints an independent third-party organization to verify the effective execution of the mission.
– Submits the amended articles of incorporation to the commercial court registry.
Bear in Mind
The independent third-party verification must take place 18 months after the company attains mission-driven status (24 months for companies with fewer than 50 employees). This verification is repeated every 2 or 3 years, depending on the company’s workforce size.
This audit enables the company to:
· comply with applicable regulations,
· strengthen the credibility of its commitment with stakeholders,
· benefit from an external review of the coherence alignment of its mission-related actions,
embed its mission into a continuous improvement process.
